Ravens’ David Ojabo helps Baltimore receive extra help from the NFL in an interesting way
Albert Cesare-USA TODAY Sports

The NFL has emphasized finding international talent because there are good football players outside of the United States borders, or at least come from there.

Baltimore Ravens have their own in LB David Ojabo, who is now being deemed as an international player and it has earned the Ravens a roster exemption. With that, the Ravens will be able to carry 91 players through the offseason.

According to the NFL, a qualifying international player is a person whose citizenship and principal place of residence are outside the United States and Canada, and who have a maximum of two years of United States high school experience. In addition, an international player must (i) satisfy all NFL player eligibility rules and (ii) have been eligible for a prior NFL Draft.

The Ravens selected Ojabo out of Michigan in the second round of the 2022 NFL Draft. Ojabo was born in Nigeria and lived in Scotland before making his way to the United States. Ojabo tore his Achilles during the draft process and dropped to the second round after being a first-round prospect. Baltimore took a chance on him knowing that he would have to miss most of all of his rookie season.

In 2023, Ojabo had one sack in three games before being placed on the injured reserve with what was later found to be a partially torn ACL. Entering his third season, the hope is that Ojabo is finally healthy and the upside will play out on the field.

One bonus to having him on the roster is now that you can get an extra look at an extra player by signing them during the offseason. Baltimore can even decide to make that player their No. 17 addition to their practice squad, essentially not taking up a spot.
